We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
“For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”
Matthew 7:14
Hello! I’m Dan Sasala! This year will be my fourth year as a missionary with FOCUS. I serve as the Team Director at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. With all of the incredible things the Lord has done on campus and in my heart, I have seen how God is calling me to serve one more year with FOCUS. In leaning in deeper than I have ever thought the Lord would call me, I pray that you also ask how far the Lord is asking you to lean in.
While being blessed to have been raised in the Catholic faith all my life, FOCUS helped me to deepen my understanding of church teachings, the bible, and helped me cultivate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I was able to connect with friends and grow in true friendship by having deep and meaningful conversations about faith and many social justice issues. In my incredible experiences with FOCUS I knew that the Lord was calling me to help other college students come to know the love of Jesus and to help them spread it across the campus.
Our primary role as FOCUS missionaries is to help fulfill the Great Commission that God gives us, which is making disciples of all nations. We do this by cultivating authentic friendships with young men and women, leading bible studies, taking students on foreign mission trips, and serving the poor. We have the unique opportunity to fundraise 100% of our salaries so that we can be fully available to the students we serve. With your support, you are helping to fulfill God’s mission for us and helping to fill the future with strong and virtuous men and women who are dedicated to living their lives the way Jesus calls us to live.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
