I am a campus missionary at Iowa State University! Go Cyclones!

I remember the first homily that I truly listened to and let penetrate my heart. During my sophomore year at The University of Southern Mississippi, our priest was giving a homily on John 10:10 which says, “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly”. I remember thinking to myself, “I should be happy. I am making good grades, I have friends, and I am involved on campus. However, on the inside, I am deeply unsatisfied”.  I had seen this abundance in the FOCUS missionaries who served at my campus, and I craved the authentic joy and freedom that they had. This bible verse began a pursuit for something greater than the world could offer me. This bible verse is what I returned to each time I recognized the thirst for something more that was inside of me. My junior year, I texted the FOCUS missionary who led the bible study I was a member in and asked her to meet with me weekly to teach me how to pray, what it means to be Catholic, and how to live a life completely for Jesus. I was exhausted by the emptiness that worldly pleasures left me with and was determined to find the abundance that I heard about that one Sunday. Becca, the FOCUS missionary, began meeting with me weekly and walked with me at the exact pace that the Lord was purifying and transforming my heart. Becca introduced me to Jesus as a friend and King who desired to bring abundant joy to my life. I met the one person who could quench the thirst for something more than I was experiencing.

I believe that the journey to Heaven is a simple yet mysterious combination of small yeses and noes. Jesus is always waiting for us to choose the higher path and to choose Him. I said yes to the call of being a missionary because I want to help college women understand the invitation that Jesus has for each of us. It is a joyful invitation filled with God’s truth, beauty, and goodness. He is eagerly awaiting our continued yes.
