DENVER, Feb. 27, 2018 — The Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) recently hosted two Legacy Conferences challenging Greek students to discover God’s plan, live with a purpose and establish a meaningful legacy for the future – both on campus and in eternity. More than 870 attendees joined in the events in Atlanta Feb. 9 – 11, and Kansas City Feb. 23 – 25.

FOCUS Greek missionaries and students invited their peers to learn more about their faith and grow both as individuals and leaders on campus. Many fraternity and sorority members take on leadership roles in student government and campus clubs, providing unique – and sometimes challenging – opportunities to role model virtuous behaviors.

The Legacy conferences provided opportunities for fun fellowship with other Greeks, music, prayer and inspiring talks from dynamic speakers such as FOCUS CEO and Founder Curtis Martin. Colorado State had the largest number of registrants (35) at the Kansas City conference. University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa brought the largest contingent (46) to the Atlanta event. Jennifer Mahr is a member of Chi Omega at the University of Kansas (KU), where she hosts a Bible study at her sorority. Of the 26 KU students who attended, five were from her study.

“The Legacy conference helped sorority and fraternity members think differently about the ‘typical’ college lifestyle and realize their worth is in God,” said Mahr, who will be a FOCUS missionary after graduation this May. “The event gave us an opportunity to discuss how Christ is calling us to live a life of virtue that is full of love and can still be fun. My FOCUS friendships are unlike any others and I know they’ll always be there when I need to talk. They encourage me to deepen my faith and follow His will for my life.”

More than 140 FOCUS Greek missionaries serve on 91 campuses across the U.S., such as the University of Florida, University of Texas-Austin, Texas A&M and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition, Louisiana State University, Kansas State University and Iowa State University added FOCUS Greek missionaries to their teams this academic year.

Most FOCUS Greek missionaries were involved in the Greek system themselves while in college. Today, they invest in Greek students by developing authentic friendships and helping them grow in their faith through Bible studies, daily Mass and other activities.
