God has called me to serve my first year on mission at the University of Pennsylvania! As a FOCUS missionary at Penn, it is a privilege to share the Gospel and walk in authentic friendship with college students along their spiritual journeys. I desire for them to know that Jesus is the truth, the way and the life, and that He loves and desires a personal relationship with each of us.

¡Dios me ha llamado a servir en mi primer año de misión en la Universidad de Pennsylvania! Como misionera con FOCUS en Penn, es un privilegio compartir el Evangelio y caminar en amistad con estudiantes universitarios a lo largo de sus caminos espirituales con Jesus. Deseo que conozcan la verdad, de qué Jesús es la verdad, el camino y la vida que es Jesus. Él ama y desea una relación personal con cada uno de nosotros.

Being raised culturally Catholic meant that during my childhood and early young adult life, I attended Mass, received the Sacraments, and knew about God, but I did not exactly know Him. In my senior year of high school, parish friends invited me on my first retreat, and that began a huge shift in my view of God as a Father, as someone who wanted to walk with me. In my freshman year at Montclair State (2019), Sophie invited me on a mission trip to Mexico, which increased my desire for a true relationship with Jesus and opened my perspective on the need for the Gospel to be shared both domestically and internationally.

For a time, I thought everything was going well. During my sophomore year of college, although there were some hiccups, I was spiritually on fire. Then the pandemic hit, and with it came multiple strings of bad news. From mid-2020 to 2022, I started to increase my time at work and focus on getting through college to avoid reality: Big mistake. I was trying and failing to control my work, personal, school, and “Catholic” life. But the Lord kept working amidst the chaos, and during my senior year in college, I realized that I couldn’t handle everything alone anymore. 

By the grace of God, throughout the last 2 years, He gifted me with family, friends, professors, and specifically FOCUS missionaries who continuously showed me how Jesus is not just someone we pray to, but He is someone who wants to help carry our cross with us. I started to regularly go to daily Mass and Adoration again, along with leading Bible Studies that became the highlight of my days. I realized that no matter how lost one thinks they are, it’s never too late for Jesus to find them.

Through relationships I made in college, I saw the importance of such a formative time of life, where, unfortunately, so many young men and women fall away from their faith. Filled with profound love and hope, I gave my yes to sharing the Gospel and the love of Jesus with college students. My life was transformed, and my greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. It’s such a joyful and necessary experience to bring Jesus to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few to reach the many. I look to Jesus’ example to find the best method of reaching the world.

Al haber crecido culturalmente católica, durante mi infancia y juventud asistía a misa, recibía los sacramentos y sabía de Dios, pero no le conocía exactamente. En mi último año de escuela secundaria, amigos de la parroquia me invitaron a mi primer retiro, y eso comenzó un gran cambio en mi visión de Dios como Padre, como alguien que quería caminar conmigo. En mi primer año en Montclair State (2019), Sophie me invitó a un mision a México, lo que aumentó mi deseo de una verdadera relación con Jesús y abrió mi perspectiva sobre la necesidad de compartir el Evangelio tanto a nivel doméstico como internacional.

Durante algún tiempo, pensé que todo iba bien. En mi segundo año de universidad, aunque había algunos obstáculos, yo estaba espiritualmente en llamas. Luego llegó la pandemia, y con ella múltiples malas noticias. Desde mitad de 2020 hasta 2022, empecé a aumentar mi tiempo en el trabajo y a centrarme en acabar la universidad para evitar la realidad: Un gran error. Intentaba y fracasaba en controlar mi vida de trabajo, personal, escolar y “católica”. Sin embargo, el Señor siguió trabajando en medio del caos, y durante mi último año en la universidad, me di cuenta de que ya no podía manejar todo sola.

Por la gracia de Dios, a lo largo de los últimos 2 años, Él me regaló familia, amigos, profesores, y específicamente misioneros de FOCUS que continuamente demostraban cómo Jesús no es sólo alguien a quien rezamos, sino que es alguien que quiere ayudarnos a llevar nuestra cruz con nosotros. Empecé a ir regularmente a Misa y a la Adoración, además de dirigir estudios bíblicos que se convirtieron en lo máximo de cada día. Me di cuenta de que, por muy perdido que uno piense que está, nunca es demasiado tarde para que Jesús lo encuentre.

A través de las amistades que entablé en la universidad, me di cuenta de la importancia de una etapa tan formativa de la vida, en la que, desafortunadamente, tantos jóvenes se alejan de la fe. Lleno de profundo amor y esperanza, di el “sí” a compartir el Evangelio y el amor de Jesús con estudiantes universitarios. Mi vida fue transformada, y mi mayor deseo es llevar a todos los estudiantes a Cristo. Es una experiencia tan dichosa y necesaria llevar a Jesús a los demás y presentarles el mensaje del Evangelio que cambia vidas. En su ministerio sobre la tierra, Jesús se humilló para encontrarse con nosotros a nuestro nivel, asumiendo nuestra humanidad, y pasó la mayor parte de su tiempo invirtiendo profundamente en unos pocos para llegar a muchos. Me fijo en el ejemplo de Jesús para encontrar el mejor manera de llegar al mundo.

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. Spreading the message of God cannot be done alone. With your spiritual and financial contribution, we can continue in the transformation of the world! Cuando respondí a la llamada de Dios para ser misionera con FOCUS, tomé la decisión de contar con el apoyo espiritual y financiero de personas quien  ayudar me y venir, en un forma, en misión conmigo. Compartir el Evangelio de Dios no puede hacerse solo. Con su contribución espiritual y financiera, podemos continuar en la transformación del mundo.
