I went to Texas A&M University where I studied Kinesiology and Health Education. I am now going on a new adventure to be a first-year missionary at Johns Hopkins University.

As a freshman in college I knew I wanted to live out my Christian faith, but I wanted to have community and I was unsure if the Catholic Church could provide that. After exploring different Chrisitian denominations I began to ask the question, “What does the Catholic Church believe and do I believe it?”. Throughout my first two years of college I found great community outiside of the Catholic Church that was leading me to live a more authentic Chrisitan lifestyle by pursuing a deeper relationship with God through reading scripture. At this time in my life I was set to leave the Catholic Church, because I had not found community and I did not understand the faith. I knew this decision was going to be a difficult conversation with my family and through many prayers I asked the Lord to help me find someone who loved Jesus through the Catholic Church to answer my questions.

After attending mass one Sunday the bulletin provided an email address to contact in order to join a student athlete Bible study at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. I emailed the FOCUS Missionary as soon as I got home to see if I could join. That one email led me to find the answers to my questions and find community within the Catholic Church for my last three years of college. The FOCUS community at Texas A&M provided us athletes with a weekly Bible study where we learned more about scripture together. The FOCUS missionaries also lead me in dicipleship once a week where I learned how Jesus has called us to live as His disciples and the importance of going out to share the Gospel to others.

We are all on a mission together to fulfill the great commission Jesus left us with, “to go and make disciples of ALL nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).
