The Lord has called us to serve side by side at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux Louisiana, GEAUX COLONELS!

Amber’s Story:

During my time in high school in Albuquerque New Mexico, I had the gift of encountering Our Lord through the Sacrament of Confession on my Confirmation retreat. Through this experience I was completely transformed by Jesus’ love for me. I was able to form friendships with a few close friends that modeled lives of true Christian joy.

After attending the University of New Mexico for one year, Jesus called me to transfer to Benedictine College in Atchison Kansas. While attending Benedictine, one of my roommates asked if I would be interested in leading her Bible study for a semester while she studied abroad. My spring semester, I began leading a Bible study, and was changed through allowing my intimacy with Christ to flow into the lives of other young women. By my junior year of college, I was discipling three incredible young women, and I knew Jesus had put the desire on my heart to serve Him as a FOCUS missionary.

Peter’s Story:

When I entered college at Texas State I was a practicing Catholic with a rotting heart. My heart yearned to be known and loved but no mere mortal can satisfy that desire I learned.  The witness of several missionaries and their unending effort to walk with me through the ups and downs and bring me to the foot of the cross impacted me in a profound way. They loved me well but knew that only Jesus could fill me up. And lemme tell ya, Jesus has continued to vibrantly transform my heart and set me on this path I am currently on. The missionaries helped me see Jesus as the ultimate God of the universe who truly loves me intimately and desires a relationship with me. Because of their witness, I have come to know my identity as a beloved son of God.

When the Lord placed the desire on my heart to serve Him as a missionary with FOCUS, I wanted nothing more than to share with other young men the freedom the Father has for them in coming to know their identity as beloved sons!

As missionaries we are asked to live out poverty of heart in a very deep way. We were asked to fast from romantic relationships our first year of mission work, surrender where we served as missionaries, and whom we served with. Amber was placed at Texas State University (which happened to be Peter’s alma mater!). After completing the dating fast after our first year of mission work, Amber would be the only returning missionary to Texas State’s campus. Peter had always been passionate about FOCUS’ mission at Texas State and wanted to touch base with how she was handling the change. To be brief, we started dating, and fell in love!

Having a devotion to St. Joseph, we were overjoyed to get engaged on the feast of St. Joseph the Worker (May 1st 2021). At last, seven months later we entered into the beautiful Sacrament of marriage on December 4th 2021 in the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Thibodaux!

As a missionaries our greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. Our lives has been transformed by Jesus and we want nothing more than to bring this joy to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. We have been so honored to witness to our students a life modeled after the Holy Family. We pray that our students would encounter Our Lord through the gift of our marriage & our home!

In February 2023, we welcomed our daughter Catherine Rose! We’re happy to have her as the most recognizable and memorable missionary on Nicholls’ campus!

In joining FOCUS, we have said “Yes” to entrusting Jesus with our lives and this mission He has entrusted us to. With that being said, He does not call us to go alone. Christ has invited us to radically join ourselves to Him, by committing to fully fundraise our support and rely on Him even more. We have been blessed by God immensely with the spiritual and financial support of incredible mission partners that literally go on mission with us through their support.
