We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
God has called me to serve college students. For the upcoming school year, God is calling me to serve the students in the Boston Area. You’ll typically find me hanging out at the university cafe, the Newman Center, or high-fiving people around campus. I have a pretty cool story about how Jesus has changed my life — I think you should hear it sometime! Come find me and I’d love to share it with you. 🙂
If I could describe my story, I would say that I am a perfect example of the prodigal son. I started my college experience so excited to get involved at Temple’s Newman Center. I was excited to deepen my faith for the first time. My freshmen of College I had the chance to be in a bible study, but I turned it down because it was not the coolest thing in the world. The start of college experience was typical for any young freshmen, class, parties and Netflix. By the time I entered my seconded semester of my sophomore year, I completely stopped practicing the faith. I was too deeply involved in the party culture, ditching the catholic center for fraternity fame and drinking and partying every single day and weekend.
I was lost. By the end of my Junior year I had enough of it all. There was deep longing in my heart for something more in my life. I had no one to open up to share what was really going on inside myself. I was ashamed to go back to church because of what people would think and I did not want to be made fun of for feeling like this in front of my “friends” It was not until that summer when I went on a mission trip with Life Teen. The Lord was planning to reveal His heart to me through the brothers and sisters of that community. For seven weeks I stayed in the North Georgia mountains. I encountered real authentic friendship for the first time in my life. Prayer was the heart beat of our community and by the end of the experience spending an hour with Jesus felt as if I was with Him for 10 minutes. My life was changed from that experience.
Coming back to campus the upcoming fall, I knew that I had to go back to the Newman centered and get involved in some way. I met the FOCUS missionaries and they plugged me into a bible study. Before you know it, I was asked into discipleship. I started to learned how to balance school and prayer. I started to share the Gospel on campus. My heart was so on-fire for the Lord that year. I ended up leading 10 guys in bible study by the time I ended my senior year and discipled 3 of those guys. My desire for mission started by just a simple invitation to interview weekend. After 3 failed tries to get me there, a retreat to push me to say yes to that invitation, a canceled flight and many opportunities that I turned down, I said yes to the Lord and serving college students because the need for the Gospel to be shared on campus is high and if no one else is doing it, might as well start this trend so the whole world will hear it.
As a missionary, my greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. My life has been transformed by Jesus and I want nothing more than to bring this joy to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few. I look to Jesus own example to find the best method of reaching the world. I’ve been constantly amazed by the different souls I’ve encountered on campus.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you.
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
