I currently serve at the University of South Carolina! Go Gamecocks!

I entered college at the University of Texas at Austin with extreme curiosity and a desire to find good community where I could become my most authentic self. This first looked like going through recruitment and joining my sorority with women who were driven both academically and socially. While a great experience, I found myself still feeling unsatisfied and grasping at whatever would bring me temporary fulfillment. I knew I wanted more, but wasn’t sure where to find it. Growing up in Catholic school my whole life, I was no stranger to the Sacraments or prayer, but for the first time had the decision to pursue my faith on my own. By the grace of God, I didn’t actually have to do this on my own because quickly into the Fall semester of my freshman year, I was invited into the community at the Catholic Center by a student involved in FOCUS. Through her witness, and those of the FOCUS missionaries, I saw what it actually looked like to live out a Catholic life, one where the Sacraments and prayer are the heart of your day. I was able to join a bible study, where I met other women striving in their relationship with God, while also wanting to know me deeply. For the first time, I was being immersed in scripture and learning about the love of God through the Gospel story. Slowly, I saw myself grow in joy and peace from my daily encounters with God. The Lord continued to pursue me as I attended the SEEK conference and a mission trip to Peru, during my senior year. In those moments of confusion, uncertainty, and loneliness throughout college, He was present, and I felt confident in the community He had provided for me. 

It became increasingly clear in my senior year that the Lord was calling me to something bigger than myself, something where I could share the Gospel with other college students. Seeing how much the Lord had transformed my life the past four years, made me want to share with others even more. As Catholics, we all are called to mission, and I’m so excited to get to share the Gospel with the women at The University of South Carolina, reminding them of how much God truly loves and cares for them throughout any and all circumstances. 

When I said yes to FOCUS, I also said yes to relying on God to provide spiritual and financial support through the generosity of mission partners. They are the reason I am able to get to campus and fulfill this mission. Together we are able to spread the Gospel message to college students who may be hearing it for the first time.
