Hi! My name is Cori Martin and I’m a second year FOCUS Missionary!

My Story

When I arrived at college in the fall of 2020, I felt completely lost. The isolation of COVID had stripped away so many experiences, and my faith was at its lowest point. I had grown up going to Mass, but I had never really formed a personal relationship with God.

That began to change when I moved into the Newman Center at the University of Illinois. There, I met a FOCUS missionary who invested deeply in me—walking with me through the ups and downs of sorority recruitment and helping me feel seen in a new and unfamiliar place. As a small-town girl who didn’t know anyone, I joined a FOCUS Bible study in hopes of finding virtuous friendships. I found so much more.

Through the invitation and authentic friendship of that missionary, I came to understand what it truly means to be loved by the Lord.

Over time, I began to grow in prayer, build real community, and discover the joy of a relationship with Jesus. Eventually, I began leading my own Bible study, and it opened my eyes to the brokenness many college students carry—longing for something more, yet unsure where to turn. I saw myself in their stories.

It was through this journey, and a life-changing mission trip, that I heard the Lord inviting me to become a FOCUS missionary. Now, I have the incredible privilege of walking with students just as someone once walked with me—helping them encounter Christ, be made new in Him, and discover that only His merciful and unwavering love can truly fill our hearts.
