What’s up! My name is Elise and I’m a first-year FOCUS missionary at UC Irvine.

Where I serve

God has blessed me abundantly, calling me to serve at the University of California Irvine! I am excited to work with my wonderful team and can’t wait to serve the students at the campus. I get the beautiful opportunity to cultivate authentic relationships and share the Truth, Joy, and Love of Christ with the students.

My Story

I was raised in Longmont, Colorado in a Catholic family and my amazing parents provided me with a solid foundation of the faith. As a little kid, I loved Jesus just about as much as I could. In my junior year of high school, I had a lot of questions come up about the faith and started to distance myself from Jesus. I became lukewarm in my faith, still practicing but not with great purpose. I was stuck. I wanted to want Jesus, to have a desire for Him. But I deep down, I didn’t want to commit all of my life to Him, and I wasn’t doing anything to foster a relationship with Him.

My journey of overcoming my indifference and growing in relationship with Jesus again began when I started to get involved at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder (sko buffs!). Here I was encountered with authentic friendship and found Catholic people who were actually cool. I was invited into a Bible study and eventually discipleship where I learned what it looks like to have a personal relationship with Jesus. After months of being committed to daily prayer and building a relationship with Jesus once again, I felt my fire for Him light up inside of me at the FOCUS Seek conference in February 2022.

My life is forever changed because of this encounter with Jesus Christ through the authentic friendship of the FOCUS missionaries at my campus and the students at Buffalo Catholic.

Your Impact

Many college students are struggling to find a life filled with hope, purpose, and a sense of belonging. I strongly believe everyone deserves to know how loved and cherished they are by Jesus. I’m so blessed to be a missionary with FOCUS where I can share the Truth with the students at UC Irvine — that they are not only loved and cherished but that Jesus longs to fill the void in their hearts that nothing on this earth can fill.

I literally wouldn’t be able to be on mission alone, it truly takes a village. Without the prayers and financial support of my mission partners, I wouldn’t get very far. In saying ‘yes’ to God’s call to be a FOCUS missionary, I get the opportunity to invite others on mission with me and fully rely on the Lord to provide for me through them.
