Our Story

I (Gabe) have been Catholic my whole life, and Jesus has revealed Himself to me in many ways over the years. One of the most significant has been through my brothers in Christ, as iron sharpens iron. It’s been through the deep and consistent friendships with Catholic men that the character of Christ has been impressed upon me, and has inspired me to go and do the same for others.

I didn’t want to just maintain my faith in college, I wanted to share it, but I didn’t know how. FOCUS found me, and invited me into Bible studies, discipleship, and deep friendships. I started my own Bible study my sophomore year, and I’ve come to look at that study as some of the most significant things I’ve ever done. Against my practical idea of what a successful college graduate looked like, I felt called to let go of becoming an engineer for a time and to finish what I had started with FOCUS.

One of the men in that Bible study I led recently told me that when I met him he didn’t know what the Eucharist was. Another has told me that he didn’t really know if he believed that God existed before he was invited to encounter Him more deeply. Both of these men became critical leaders in the Catholic community at MTU. Now at SMU, I have had the privilege to sponsor three students into full communion with the Faith, including my new Godson. I have been blessed to walk with many lost and wandering people, those struggling with intellectual doubts, substance abuse, mental health crises, and grief-damaged faith. I have seen students rise above these obstacles and run to Jesus, not only to the point of personal conversion, but also to become evangelists in their turn: leading bible studies, making disciples, and changing the culture at SMU into one centered on Christ and His Church.

My wife, Jess, was a missionary who served at East Carolina University and then at the Denver Support Center planning and directing mission trips. By God’s grace we met through an all-staff training and got married last May. She now teaches fifth grade at a Catholic school and is still on Mission. Together we hope to raise a family founded in the Great Commission, where Jesus commanded all the Faithful to “go out and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19).

Your Impact

We have chosen to rely on the spiritual and financial help of others so that I can be free to devote my full time and effort to this Mission. By supporting us, you can ensure that college students like ourselves are encountered and invited into life-long Mission, raising up the next generation of leaders in the Church. So many people can be reached by the deep conversion of one soul. Will you help me reach him?

If you are interested in supporting us, please reach out and I will set up an appointment with you. I would be honored to share the Mission with you.
