We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hi! My name is Greta Jo! Welcome to my page!
“Be soldiers.”
– Saint Pope John Paul II
Originally hailing from the Cornhusker State, I’m trading the great plains and Memorial Stadium for the sandy beaches and golden hills of northern California! For my first year of mission, I am serving at San Jose State University! Being placed here is a blessing and honor. I’m so excited to be with these students! Go Spartans!
Me and the SJSU team!
I grew up Catholic and attended Catholic school from kindergarten to my senior year of high school. Despite being raised in the faith, I didn’t have much personal relationship with Jesus, nor did I understand the importance of it. For me, faith was just “doing all the right things.” I followed the Church’s teachings and lived in a state of “going through the motions.” Once I reached college, I struggled to discover where I belonged and felt lost. I started to put my time and energy into school because I saw how much I could excel in that part of my life. Soon enough, I had put my whole worth and identity into academics because there was nowhere else I could find it.
It wasn’t long before my life started to feel so empty and lonely. I wasn’t sure what to do or where to go, but a missionary on my campus reached out to me. She saw me wearing a FOCUS Greek shirt and decided to come and talk to me. That was the first time I encountered a missionary, and after our conversation, I decided to do something about the emptiness I felt. Some friends asked me to audition for the Praise and Worship choir, so I did. And through that small yes, I started to fall in love with the faith. From there, the Lord seemed to fill my life with many graces; I began developing a real relationship and friendship with the Lord. This personal encounter with Jesus has brought me so much freedom, happiness, and peace, including my yes to FOCUS.
Ever since I said yes, my life has been full of so much growth that words cannot describe it. Jesus has changed me, and I cannot imagine living in a world without Him. I’m so blessed to be called to mission, and I can only hope that the students and women I encounter will hear the call, too.
God called me to be His missionary, and with that comes the decision to rely on mission partners both spiritually and financially. With your gracious and generous donations, I can invest in the lives of students the same way I was invested in. I would love to walk this journey with you to fulfill the Lord’s great commission! If you would like to partner with me, please let me know how I can reach you! I would love to schedule an appointment and would be honored to share this mission with you!

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
