We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hey y’all, my name’s Ireland and I’m a FOCUS missionary at Bridgewater State University!
God has given me the opportunity and calling to serve college students all the way up in Massachusetts at Bridgewater State University! I feel so honored that the Lord called me to share the gospel in such a radical way. As a second-year missionary, I am so excited to continue to meet students and share the ways that I have personally encountered Jesus and how He has changed my life!
Above is a picture of my team: (from left to right) Hopi (team director & third-year), Chandler (first-year), Max (first-year), and myself! Please keep us in your prayers as we walk together as a team through Bridgewater’s campus to encounter students.
In the gospel of Luke (7:36-50), we are told of a woman who sits at Jesus’ feet weeping, bathing His feet with her tears and anointing Him with oil. Through this parable, we are shown Jesus forgiving the sins of this woman and pardoning her, allowing her to leave in peace. The first time I ever read this story, I was so struck by the way this woman, knowing who she was in the presence of, humbled herself and allowed herself to be fully seen and known by Christ Jesus. Through her tears, she was forgiven and allowed to live a new life in Christ.
Jesus has struck my heart in such a way with this passage that I cannot help but to weep, just like the woman. He has shown His unending love to me through the way that He has continued to pursue my heart and console me throughout my entire life. He has followed me through all the phases of my life and washed me clean of sin that had previously stained my skin. I see myself in this weeping woman and I know that Jesus has pardoned me and given me new life as well.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission, as Christ called his disciples to do during their years of full-time ministry:
“Afterward He journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Accompanying Him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susannna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.” -Luke 8:1-3
I would be honored if you would partner with me in this mission to know Christ and make Him known, as Jesus calls all disciples to do: “Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations!” -Matthew 28:19
