We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hey! My name’s Jacob. I am a FOCUS Missionary!
“All for God and for His Glory. In whatever you do, think of the Glory of God as your main goal.”
-St. John Bosco
God has called me to serve with the St. John Bosco Project in Denver, Colorado at the Auraria Campus! I am in my sixth year with FOCUS and serve as a Bosco Project Formator of the Denver formation house. I will be alongside my fiancée, Jenna Zywiec as we both serve the missionaries and students of the Auraria Campus.
Inspired by St. John Bosco’s profound love for helping young men realize their God-given potential, the FOCUS Bosco Project exists to support the development of young men to serve the Church, particularly on college campuses with FOCUS. With the Bosco Project, FOCUS can hire more men, serve more campuses, and ultimately have a bigger impact on more young people across the country. We’re especially recruiting men who are new to living out their faith, desire personal growth, and want to serve God on mission. We aim to provide comprehensive formation for their continued conversion and ability to freely serve the Church. We immerse them in a rich communal life, weekly mentorship, and additional accountability and support – on top of their traditional responsibilities as a FOCUS missionary. This coming year we will have be on campuses in Denver, CO, Denton, NE, & Naperville, IL with our houses of formation.
My current role with the Bosco Project is as a formator. In my role as a formator I have the opportunity to walk with 8-10 1st year FOCUS missionaries as they participate in the Bosco Project at the Auraria Campus. My main role is to live with these men and the other formator to help facilitate the culture and rule of life within our community so as to bring us all closer to how God is calling us to love Him and those we serve. I am in charge of all of our house operations that range from times of prayer, fellowship, cooking and cleaning schedules, formative experiences, and oversight mission work among other things. I personally walk with 5 of these men in weekly mentorship to help them go deeper into their formation. Whether it’s how to thrive with the other missionaries well, or how to grow in their own personal areas virtue, I share with them from my own experience how to grow into the men that God is calling them to be.
As I accomapny these men in their formation Jenna will help them in their mission specific skills. We will go on campus together to invite students to get involved in bible studies, come to mass, or even to hang out at the church for our weekly barbeque. She will teach them how to lead others in FOCUS discipleship and bible study while she also leads some of the women of the Auraria Campus! Ultimately, she will get to be their first experience of female friendship as a teammate.
Jenna and I are both really excited to see what the Lord will do through us as we start a new chapter in Denver!
As a missionary, my greatest desire is to lead all students and missionaries to Christ. During college my life was radically been transformed by God. I now want nothing more than to bring this joy to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel and the redeemed life He has for them. I believe there are many other lives that the Lord wants to change on the college campus and beyond. In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few. Living as a disciple of Jesus is my greatest joy. I’ve been constantly amazed by the different souls I’ve encountered on campus while being Jesus’ missionary.
I specifically desire for men to see just how good and valuable they are. In a culture that is so indivualized and self-centric, many men today do not realize that God has called us to be strong for others through a life of love, joy, and self-sacrifice. Through my own life I desire to lead other men into the role that Jesus has called us to – to live a life like His.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will gladly schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
