We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hi there, I’m Jake! I’m a FOCUS missionary serving at the United States Air Force Academy.
Gird up the loins of your mind, live soberly, and set your hopes completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:13)
After serving my first year at Dickinson State University in North Dakota, I am now in Colorado Springs serving the cadets of the US Air Force Academy (USAFA)!
Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song!
– St. John Paul the Great
The Gospel is truly the Good News, and it is the most important message we must spread!
As a cradle Catholic, I sort of knew this was true, but never thought deeply about it. Like many, my faith was not the most important aspect of my teenage life. It wasn’t until college that I realized the truths contained within the Gospel. I encountered FOCUS missionaries and other friends (including some strongly Protestant Christian ones) in college who walked with me in my faith journey and challenged my beliefs. The Holy Spirit was certainly working through these people, because gradually, my heart was set aflame. I joined Bible studies, a discipleship group, and eventually led my own Bible study.
I eventually decided join FOCUS as a missionary for several reasons. I knew being a full-time missionary would put me outside of my comfort zone; as an introvert, I was very content reading the Bible by myself! But I wanted to challenge myself, to give myself the opportunity to lean even more on God. On top of that, I wanted to continue to deepen my relationship with the Lord and to equip myself for lifelong mission in the best way possible. After a year on staff, I can safely say that my spiritual life has flourished in ways I did not know possible, and the habits I have formed as a FOCUS missionary will impact not only the students I encounter on campus, but my future friends and family.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,
and you shall renew the face of the earth!
Saying “yes” to becoming a FOCUS missionary meant that I would be relying entirely on the spiritual and financial support of my mission partners. My mission partner family is with me in the battle for souls as I go to bring the Gospel to the students of USAFA. I invite you to join us.

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
