Jared Williams

Growing up as a military kid, my faith felt like it was always on the move, just like us. I tried different jobs, from becoming a Detention Officer at a jail to doing heat treatment as a civillian for the air force, but nothing really clicked. Even though I had all the stuff people said would make me happy—a good job, a house, a new car—I still felt like something was missing.

Then, one night in, I stumbled into an adoration and bam! God showed up. It was like a light bulb moment. And guess who was there? Jesus! but also my soon to be lifelong friend Weston, my buddy. He introduced me to some super enthusiastic Catholics, and they challenged me to start a community right in my hometown.

I’ll be honest, I felt like I wasn’t good enough to lead them. But with God’s help, I guess I did okay. Then, out of the blue, someone from the Archdiocese (a former FOCUS missionary as well) reached out and saw potential in me. They mentored me, and together we started something awesome called “Zeal” for young adults trying to build community.

But even with all this going on, I still felt like there was more out there for me. I remember telling my friend that I’d never be a missionary. But then, at SEEK 2024, Weston popped up again and challenged me—again—to join FOCUS

At first, I thought he was nuts. But after a lot of thinking and praying, I realized the only thing holding me back was my own comfort. So, I made the leap. I left everything I knew behind to follow Jesus and share His love with others, just like the apostles did.
