We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
I am serving at the University of Utah! As a Varsity Catholic missionary, I mentor student athletes within their demanding schedules, teaching them to glorify God in their sport and in their daily lives.
I’ve experienced the emptiness that comes from putting my identity in my sport, in my level of success as an athlete and in worldly standards. My worth was contingent on my level of performance and how much attention I received from the world. I found myself never being content with what I had and I was left searching for more. During this time, I met a FOCUS missionary named Mary who had a glow in her that I did not see in others and it did not take me long to recognize I desperately wanted that for myself.
Through her and saying “yes” to a FOCUS mission trip to Belize, I met Christ face-to-face for the first time. I encountered the transformative power of Christ’s love and finally had an answer for the intimacy I had been seeking for in so many other places. My mission in life changed. My entire demeanor in life changed. For the first time in my life I had found truth in something that was far greater than me. The truth, beauty, and goodness that I learned in a life striving towards heaven, has been the greatest gift of freedom. There was a renewal that happened in me that I still struggle to put into words. This change occurred from the endless mercy, grace and overwhelming love of Jesus. He became real to me. He became a person to me.
A “big picture” look was well said in a Today’s Catholic article: There are an estimated 40 million young people involved in youth sports in the U.S. That s a huge number! All of these athletes have a coach. Many of these coaches are former college athletes. Our work on campus will have a profound impact on millions of young people in addition to the thousands of college athletes as we are raising up a generation of future coaches.
College athletes are in dire need of this intense love and of the reality that God is and will be the only thing that can bring ultimate fulfillment to our lives.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
