We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hi! We’re the Edmistons and we serve at McNeese State University in Lake Charles.
We are missionaries at McNeese State University in Lake Charles Louisiana
Emma and I met when we were ten years old at a theatre camp. We then continued to be acquaintances until our senior year of high school when we started dating. I had been raised Catholic but was far from my faith at the time, already planning on leading a life of sin when I got to college. She however, was raised as an incredibly faithful Protestant. In her love for God she brought me back to my own faith by asking questions that I found I had no answers to. When I went to find answers I found the treasure trove of the Church waiting for me and fell in love with the Catholic faith.
This was something I continued to foster as I transfered to Texas State University for the last half of undergrad. Here I encountered FOCUS, and, through the example of my missionaries, was led from what I realized was a superficial, mostly intellectual faith to truly encountering Jesus in prayer and the sacraments. I began to lead a Bible study as a student leader as well. It was a great joy to get to encounter other students and walk with them towards Christ, and my wife found a similar joy in doing the same thing in her time at the University of Texas. Though we both had no plans of going on mission with FOCUS, my missionary at Texas State asked me to consider it and I slowly realized that God had in fact put the desire to minister to college students on my heart and this was how He wanted to fulfill it.
Emma and I got married right after I was finished at Texas State and are now expecting our first child come October. We are incredibly excited to minister to college students away from home by showing them hospitality and inviting them into our family in ways only a married couple can.
All of this is only possible through the many faithful people who support us. When we are on mission we are only there because of the prayer and financial help of all of our mission partners. When we invite students over for dinner, take them on mission trips, or gift them their first Bible that is only possible through your support. If you are interested in our mission, please do not hesitate to reach out!
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
