We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hello! I’m Luke and I’m a FOCUS missionary working as a formator with the Bosco Project at Doane University.
After five years on a traditional FOCUS campus – two at Ball State and three at the University of Iowa – I am continuing as a missionary with FOCUS in my second year as a part of the St. John Bosco Project.
While studying mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland, missionary life was not on the table. Through a Christ-centered group of friends, the Lord began to show me the powerful ways He had been working in my life up to that point: involvement in YoungLife, discussing who Jesus is with my fraternity brothers, and leading Bible study, to name a few. With 3 job offers on the table, I interviewed to be a missionary with FOCUS. At the end of my senior year, I finally accepted the opportunity to be a FOCUS Missionary. This life is the most impactful and formative commitment to knowing the Lord and making Him known I could imagine. From Maryland, to Ball State, then Iowa, and now Nebraska: God has worked, is working, and will continue to work in our lives, on college campuses and the world!
With the support of my mission partners over the past five years, we have:
Walked with 3 men to discern and enter seminary to become priests
Accompanied 10 men to interview to be a FOCUS Missionary
Traveled alongside 40 students on life-changing mission trips
Led 400+ students to encounter Jesus at SEEK, our national conference
Studied scripture with 100+ men in weekly Bible studies
Directed 27 missionaries while they prepared for and served on campus
Now, I’m entering my second year living with and forming 10 first year missionaries in our Bosco House in preparation for their time on mission around the country.
This year, the Lord has opened the doors to a new formation house serving Doane University in Crete, Nebraska! Our local Bishop Conley, the Vocations office, FOCUS leadership, several generous benefactors, and the Church in Crete, NE have all been receptive to expanding the Bosco Project to the Lincoln area! Between our two Bosco locations, we have 17 new FOCUS missionaries in the Bosco Project this Fall. We’re ecstatic to bring FOCUS to Doane’s students and to continue the Lord’s work in forming young men to be who God has created them to be, so that more souls can be brought to Christ! Please pray for the Bosco men in formation, the formators (me!), and our efforts to expand and grow!
If this mission inspires you in any way, I want to talk to you! Please reach out personally either by phone (630)470-8029 or email at [email protected].
I’d be honored to have you join this adventure!
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
