I am a first-year missionary at Bowling Green State University in Ohio! Students are longing for relationship: they are longing to be loved. Only the love of Christ will satisfy their hearts. I am excited to bring the joy of gospel to students and remind them that simply because they exist, it means that God loves them.

If I could add a title to my life before Christ it would be Avoiding Suffering. I went to Catholic school from Pre-K through 12th grade. From the outside, it looked like I had a “good” relationship with God. And to some extent that was true. People would ask me to lead retreats and invest in women. At that point I knew a lot about God, but I didn’t truly know Him so whenever I faced adversity, I often didn’t choose God. How was I supposed to choose and trust someone I didn’t know? I couldn’t understand the extent of the Father’s mercy. I ran away from God, but He continued to pursue me. He wanted to be as close to me as He could be. 

Heading to college, I had the same mindset of avoiding suffering. I picked a school out of state where I didn’t know a single person. I was running away. God was still working though this, and I know that He placed me at Mizzou with intentionality. A FOCUS missionary shared with me the joy in suffering. A uniquely Christian perspective to suffering that is united to Christ and offered to Him.

From there my heart started to change. I started to pursue God more intentionally. I started to pray every day and let go of my need for control. The more I died to self, the more He filled those spots in my heart. I have grown the most going on mission and leading students to Christ. It is a great joy and privilege to live mission full-time. 

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me on mission.
