After serving at Boise State University, God called us to the University of Nebraska – Kearney. Nicollette served as the team director for two years while Alfred served one year as a missionary and spent his second year as our Newman Center’s campus minister. Last year, Alfred served as executive director of the Newman Center while Nicollette moved into the role of a digital missionary. In the summer of 2024, we made the move to Fargo and Nicollette is continuing her role as a digital missionary, working with Hofstra University in Long Island, New York, and Conway Catholic, a campus ministry in Conway, Arkansas, serving three surrounding schools. She is also discipling a group of women at NDSU! I also have the opportunity to serve FOCUS in different aspects through my digital role, such as leading diocesan retreats, taking part in large group discussions within the organization, or helping chaplains and campus ministers provide more ministry opportunities on their specific campuses. This year specifically I am leading a chaplain’s group with priests from around the nation and mentoring four women who are first year missionaries within FOCUS. Our lives were very carefully crafted by the Father to bring us to Him, to each other, and to FOCUS. Growing up, the Catholic faith was important to us, but not at the center of our lives. Going to college, we began to explore our faith more deeply through bible study, discipleship, and taking advantage of the opportunities our Newman Center had to offer us. After we began dating, both of us changed career paths within the year. Nicollette graduated with a double major in Psychology and Human Development and Family Sciences with the intent to go on to graduate school for counseling, while Alfred graduated with a major in Animal Biomedical Sciences with the intent to either attend medical or veterinary school. But as Nicollette’s senior year began, she felt a deep desire to answer the call of Christ to be a soldier for Him and to evangelize a world that was so far from the Lord’s heart. While serving during her first year, Alfred felt a similar call to answer the need of the Church and primarily the need of FOCUS to have more missionaries serving on a college campus. Serving as full-time missionaries during our first year of marriage was such an incredibly beautiful and fruitful experience. The blessings have continued to abound as we moved to Nebraska and welcomed our two daughters, Amalia Brooke (2021) and Ruth Faustina (2023) and are now back in Fargo where it all began, getting ready to welcome a third Baby S. in May of 2025.
