After serving at Boise State University, God called us to the University of Nebraska – Kearney. Nicollette served as the team director for two years while Alfred served one year as a missionary and spent his second year as our Newman Center’s campus minister. This upcoming school year, we are excited to announce yet another change in our plans. While we are staying in Kearney (go Nebraska!), Alfred will be moving into a new role at the St. Teresa of Calcutta Newman Center as our new Executive Director, and Nicollette will be moving roles within FOCUS to serve as a Digital Outreach Missionary. Our hearts have grown and ached for the campus at UNK as well as the Grand Island Diocese which we have the opportunity to now serve more fully within Alfred’s role. In the meantime, Nicollette will have a unique opportunity to serve students, campus ministers, and chaplains, mostly from the comfort of our own home. She will be serving two campuses directly, California State University – Stanislaus and Hofstra University in New York. Nicollette will also have the opportunity to serve FOCUS in different aspects through her digital role, such as leading diocesan retreats, taking part in large group discussions within the organization, or helping chaplains and campus ministers provide more ministry opportunities on their specific campuses. Our lives were very carefully crafted by the Father to bring us to Him, to each other, and to FOCUS. Growing up, the Catholic faith was important to us, but not at the center of our lives. Going to college, we began to explore our faith more deeply through bible study, discipleship, and taking advantage of the opportunities our Newman Center had to offer us. After we began dating, both of us changed career paths within the year. Nicollette graduated with a double major in Psychology and Human Development and Family Sciences with the intent to go on to graduate school for counseling, while Alfred graduated with a major in Animal Biomedical Sciences with the intent to either attend medical or veterinary school. But as Nicollette’s senior year began, she felt a deep desire to answer the call of Christ to be a soldier for Him and to evangelize a world that was so far from the Lord’s heart. While serving during her first year, Alfred felt a similar call to answer the need of the Church and primarily the need of FOCUS to have more missionaries serving on a college campus. Serving as full-time missionaries during our first year of marriage was such an incredibly beautiful and fruitful experience. The blessings have continued to abound as we’ve grown to a family of three, moved to Nebraska, taken on new roles, and are now continuing to grow as a new family of four, with Baby S. set to arrive December 31st. We trust that the Lord has carefully crafted our lives to invest in the Church and those around us more deeply through serving in ministry full time. Below are some of our favorite wedding photos!
