We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hi! I’m Rebecca (Becca) Sobus and I’m a First Year Missionary at James Madison University in VA! Go Dukes!
This year I’ll be serving at James Madison University in Virginia! I’m excited to be returning to the state where I grew up, formed my Catholic roots, and developed a love of History. Generally, students can find me hanging around the Catholic Center, walking or running around Campus, grabbing coffee at a local shop, or working with my team.
I did not encounter FOCUS missionaries until I was working on my master’s in history at the University of Rhode Island. Rhode Island is a beautiful state, and I was very blessed to hold a TA position that provided for my expenses but moving to Rhode Island during the middle of COVID was really tough. When I finally connected with the FOCUS missionaries on campus that first year, they brought me into their community and invested in me so well that I experienced a revival of my faith. I now have a personal relationship with Jesus and through that have better come to know the Father and the Holy Spirit who unites the trinity. I decided to become a FOCUS missionary to revive this understanding in students who have become inundated with the secular world and experience unexplained loneliness and disdain.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of monthly mission partners to help me through this mission for the next two years. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and we can schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you!
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
