¡Hola! Estoy muy feliz de que este aqui! Mi nombre es Yasmine y Dios me ha llamado para servir en Texas A&M-Kingsville! ¡Vamos Jabalinas! Como misionera universitaria, me embarcaré en un viaje emocionante, caminaré junto a los estudiantes y los ayudaré a profundizar su fe y su relación con Jesús. My first encounter with FOCUS was in my junior year at the University of Texas at Dallas, where I was studying Neuroscience and Childhood Development. It was during this time that I was invited to a small gathering at a missionary’s home. Initially apprehensive, I spent 45 minutes contemplating in my car before mustering the courage to step inside. Little did I know that this decision would transform my life.

Upon entering the house, I was blessed to encounter Katie Groom, one of the missionaries. For almost two hours, she showered me with love and acceptance, making me feel truly welcomed. Hoping to impress her, I eagerly shared my involvements and contributions to my home parish. Katie’s gentle response changed my life. “I am glad you are pouring into souls”, she said, “but, how are you pouring into yours?” Embarrassed by my inability to answer, I realized that I lacked a personal relationship with Jesus. It was at that moment that Katie extended her hand in friendship and invited me to her bible study. She was determined to guide me toward a deeper connection with Christ. 

Inspired by Katie’s unwavering faith and witness, I made the life-altering decision to pursue a personal relationship with Jesus and make Him the center of my life.

As a missionary, my greatest desire is to lead students to Christ as Katie did with me! I wholeheartedly desire to bring joy to those I encounter and introduce them to the transformative power of the Gospel. I am excited for this next year and everything God will do in it!

Mi primer encuentro con FOCUS fue en mi tercer año en la Universidad de Texas en Dallas, donde estudiaba Neurociencia y Desarrollo Infantil. Fue durante ese tiempo que me invitaron a una pequeña reunión en la casa de una misionera. Inicialmente aprensiva, pasé 45 minutos contemplando en mi automóvil antes de decidirme a entrar. Poco sabía que esta decisión transformaría mi vida.

Al entrar a la casa, tuve la bendición de encontrarme con Katie Groom, una de las misioneras. Durante casi dos horas, me colmó de amor y aceptación, haciéndome sentir verdaderamente bienvenida. Con la esperanza de impresionarla, con entusiasmo compartí mis compromisos y contribuciones a mi parroquia de origen. La gentil respuesta de Katie cambió mi vida. “Me alegro de que estés alimentando almas”, dijo, “pero, ¿cómo estás alimentando la tuya?” Avergonzada por mi incapacidad para responder, me di cuenta de que me faltaba una relación personal con Jesús. Fue en ese momento que Katie extendió su mano en señal de amistad y me invitó a su estudio bíblico. Estaba decidida a guiarme hacia una conexión más profunda con Cristo.

Inspirada por la fe y el testimonio inquebrantables de Katie, tomé la decisión que me cambió la vida de buscar una relación personal con Jesús y hacer de Él el centro de mi vida.

Como misionera, mi mayor deseo es llevar a los estudiantes a Cristo como lo hizo Katie conmigo! Deseo de todo corazón traer alegría a aquellos con los que me encuentro y presentarles el poder transformador del Evangelio. Estoy emocionada por este próximo año y todo lo que Dios hará en él!

“He summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all.. and sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, ‘Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic.’” -Luke 9:1-3
