We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
“God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work.” – St. John Henry Newman
I serve as the Project Specialist in the Missions Department where I minister to my team and college students who serve on missions. Our work on college campuses to send disciples into lifelong Catholic mission would not be possible without vital partners like you!
After being sent to Mexico City with my fellow young Catholics this fall, I am excited to continue the rescue missions for souls in the States and abroad! Our Lord thirsts for each and everyone of us, and opportunities to serve on mission afford a person two avenues for Him to communicate with our hearts:
-Serving the poor
-Time in prayer
How does this work? Campus missionaries invite students to Bible study and discipleship. They also recruit an army of the faithful and other missionaries to go on mission together. Together, they partner with an active ministry that already impacts a community in need. Their experience also includes the essentials of the Sacramental life: daily Mass, Reconciliation, and prayer, as well as time for formation and discussion.
Growing up in the shadow of Arizona State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mandarin, my family attended Sunday Mass. However, I was not consistent with a prayer life until meeting FOCUS missionaries on my campus.
They invited me to Bible studies, and I attended my first SEEK conference in Nashville! While I became more convinced of the facts of the faith, I had not accepted Jesus as my Savior in my heart.
For years, I appeared to be a faithful Catholic, while on the inside, I was captive to a life of sin. I was completely unaware of the God-sized hole in my heart.
On a retreat, I shared my desire with the priest to serve others, and he stunned me with:
A short while ago, after being urged by others to pray with Psalm 23, I surrendered to God, and The Good Shepherd ransomed my heart. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from the Missions department at FOCUS. Faced with a chance to take a leap of faith, I chose to serve as a full-time missionary!
At the Tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe, I received the call again from Jesus through Mary and am proud to be a recruit for God and His Church.
In my heart, I quoted a popular film in response to Our Lady and Our Lord, more likely quoting the Archangel:
God has called forth so many missionary efforts, and you have chosen to support FOCUS. Thank you!
The Trinitarians and Mercedarians sailed to foreign lands to ransom captives, supported by their communities at home. With the financial support and prayers of generous mission partners like you, the Lord continues to send me and missionaries like me to campuses and to the ends of the earth.
Your generosity frees us to set sail year-round for the nations to proclaim His Goodness and rescue souls from peril!
Whether we serve on the front lines or at home, God has given each of us a special mission. The honor to serve with you in this fight is all mine.
He speaks to each one of us in this moment,
Thank YOU for answering His call!
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
