Social media can be a powerful tool for connection, evangelization, and encouragement—or it can be a distraction that pulls us away from prayer, relationships, and truth.
As Catholics, we’re called to be “in the world but not of the world” (cf. Jn 17:14–16). That includes the digital world. The way we post, comment, and engage online is part of our witness to Christ.
Start with Your Why
Before you post, ask:
- Is this helping me grow in holiness?
- Is it helping others draw closer to God?
Catholic’s social media should reflect our faith and values—not just by sharing religious content, but through the way we treat others, the tone we use, and the truth we communicate.
Keep Charity at the Center
St. Paul writes: “Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Cor 16:14).
That applies to comments, DMs, and even how we “like” or “share.” Before hitting post, run through a quick charity checklist:
- Is it true?
- Is it necessary?
- Is it kind?

Share the Good
You don’t have to post only Scripture verses and saint quotes (though those are great!). You can share stories of hope, beauty, and joy—things that point hearts toward God.
Some ideas:
- Personal testimony of what God is doing in your life
- Catholic feast day reminders
- Short encouragements from prayer
- Resources from the FOCUS Blog and FOCUS Equip

Practice Digital Fasting
Like food, social media can be good in moderation but harmful in excess. Consider:
- Tech-free mornings – start your day with prayer, not scrolling
- App-free Sundays – keep the Lord’s Day sacred
- Annual fast – take a week or more off during Lent or Advent
Engage, Don’t Just Consume
Catholic’s social media is most fruitful when it’s a conversation, not just a broadcast. Respond to comments, ask thoughtful questions, and pray for people you interact with online.
Remember Your Identity
Your worth isn’t measured by likes, views, or followers. You are a beloved son or daughter of God. Keep your identity rooted in Him, not in your online presence.

FOCUS Tip
Missionary disciples use every tool available for evangelization—including social media. Whether you’re posting a Bible verse, sharing a FOCUS retreat link, or sending a faith-filled DM to a friend, your digital footprint can be a step toward someone’s encounter with Christ.
Catholic social media isn’t neutral—it will shape you, and you will shape others through it. Use it intentionally, prayerfully, and joyfully. In the hands of a disciple, even a smartphone can become a tool for the Gospel.
