We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hey there, I’m Alex — a second-year FOCUS Missionary! Thank you for your support!
“Jesus said to His disciples: “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”
– Matthew 5:13-14
The Lord calls each of us to be missionaries, bringing the hope of the Gospel to every corner of the world. For me, that mission field is the college campus.
As a FOCUS Missionary, I serve college students through authentic friendship, Bible studies, discipleship, and the sacramental life of the Church. College is a pivotal time in a young person’s life, when many are searching for meaning, purpose, and belonging. It is also a time when many drift away from their faith.
Currently, I serve at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where I have the privilege of accompanying students as they encounter Jesus Christ, grow in their relationship with Him, and discover their identity as beloved sons and daughters of God. My mission is not simply to help students know about Christ, but to help them know Him personally and become lifelong missionary disciples who will go on to transform their families, workplaces, parishes, and communities.

My Team
Growing up, I often felt like an outcast. Whether it was on my baseball team, soccer team, or even in college, I struggled to find a place where I truly belonged. Desiring to feel seen, loved, and understood, I turned to things that I thought would bring fulfillment, only to be met with greater loneliness and emptiness. As a cradle Catholic, I knew about Jesus Christ, but I did not yet know Him personally.
Everything began to change during my junior year at San Jose State University when I was invited to the Catholic Newman Center by the FOCUS Missionaries. There, I encountered students who radiated a joy and purpose unlike anything I had seen before. They welcomed me into their community, and for the first time, I felt like I had found a home.
Soon after, I joined a FOCUS Bible study, where I discovered a life-changing truth: I was made for relationship with God. I came to know that Christ thirsted for me, delighted in me, and desired to transform my heart with His love. Through prayer, authentic friendship, and discipleship, I began to embrace my identity as a beloved son of God.
As my faith grew, I felt called to invest in others the same way others had invested in me. I eventually began leading a Bible study and walking alongside fellow students in their own journeys of faith. Through those experiences, I witnessed firsthand how many young people are searching for meaning, purpose, and belonging—often without realizing that it is Christ they are truly longing for.
During my first year as a FOCUS Missionary, I had the privilege of accompanying students at Elmhurst University carrying many of the same questions, wounds, and desires that I once carried myself. Watching them encounter the Lord, grow in confidence as beloved sons and daughters of God, and discover the joy of a life centered on Christ has only deepened my conviction that the Gospel changes lives.
That conviction continues to drive my mission today: to help students encounter Jesus Christ, grow as His disciples, and become the saints He created them to be.

As a FOCUS Missionary, I have the privilege of serving college students full-time because of the generosity of people like you who support this mission through prayer and financial giving.
Every conversation, Bible study, and student encounter is made possible by people who have chosen to join me in this work. Your support allows me to be present on campus, investing in students and helping them encounter the life-changing love of Jesus Christ.
If you believe that Christ belongs on the college campus, I invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a Mission Partner. Together, we can help lead students to Christ and equip them to share His Gospel with others.

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
