My Story

Ope! Hi there, thanks for stopping by! My name is Ethan and I am from the great state of Michigan. I’m grateful for the chance to share my story with you…

I got my first glasses in the fall of my senior year of high school. I should have come to the conclusion that I needed help seeing sooner but kept the problem to myself and learned how to deal with it. I thought I could get by on my own without asking for help, but everything was blurry, the board at school, books, basically anything with words.

When the time finally came to get my glasses, I questioned it extensively wondering, “Do I really need them?” “Can I no longer see on my own?” The difference was stunning. Suddenly, the unnecessary stress and strain was gone. Everything came into focus, and with just a little help, I could see clearly.

The same can be said for how Jesus came to work in my life. While I was raised Catholic, I never really understood what it meant to live out the faith. Sure, I went to mass regularly and attended adoration when we had it at school, but that was it. My life was still strained looking for a missing piece I didn’t even know I needed.

Later that year, at retreat, I had the opportunity to lead a small group, give a talk and most importantly, have an encounter with Jesus in a powerful way.  The Lord called me to join the prayer teams that were happening. I had never done that before and was super nervous but decided to put my trust in Him and start to bring my life into focus.

Through prayer, I began to experience the joy and power that comes from an authentic relationship with Jesus. He showed me how much He desires to know and love each of us on a personal level.

Going into college almost directly after this experience proved to be a blessing because it allowed me to continue to bring my faith into focus through authentic friendship, bible studies, adoration and community at my Newman Center. It is through those experiences that I have come to understand what it means to be Catholic and have a relationship with the Lord.

Just like Zacchaeus in Luke 19, I am fallen and broken but Jesus still wants to meet me where I am and walk with me. Experiencing that kind of love has changed everything for me, and it’s something I want to share! That’s why I chose to say yes, to let Jesus work through me on a college campus and bring light to a world that often feels dark.
