We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hey! My name’s Kristian. I’m a FOCUS missionary at the University of Virginia.
“I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18
God has called me to serve students at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville! I knew wherever I’d be placed would be perfect, because the Lord doesn’t make mistakes. However, I didn’t think it would be this perfect. God really out did himself, as he always does, and I can’t wait to get to know and serve the students and community in Charlottesville. Thank you, Lord!
Below is the team I am blessed to be serving with and learning from (from left to right); Jess, myself, Alexa, and Lindsay. Just missing our boy Owen, I’ll update this with a picture of all of us soon!
I was born and raised in Birmingham, AL, with strong ties all across the southeast, most notably in New Orleans, LA where I was baptized and had my first communion. I’m the youngest of four children of two parents I truly adore (thanks Mom and Dad for everything!) I was fortunate to be raised Catholic, and am a proud graduate of John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham. I then graduated from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 2020 with a degree in Business Management. After graduation I took a big road trip out west which ended in Boulder, CO where I worked and chased the dream of racing bicycles for a living. Fortunately that didn’t work out, because God had something so much better in store for me. While I always went to mass on Sunday, for a large part of my college and adult life I was not living my faith well. It was here in Boulder that I started going to daily mass. This wasn’t a conscious decision I made, but something I can only attribute to the Holy Spirit. After a few months I started to realize that receiving Jesus Christ in the Eucharist so regularly was truly changing my life, I mean how could it not. This sparked a full blown reversion where, thanks be to God, my faith became the most important thing in my life.
Being a FOCUS missionary was never on my radar, in fact it’s something I swore I’d never do. I’ve known of FOCUS for years, having family friends serve as missionaries and there being missionaries at Ole Miss while I was there. While being a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Boulder, CO I always knew the FOCUS missionaries at CU Boulder, and one in particular, Spencer Purdy, has played a massive role in my faith life and decision to come become a missionary. Spencer encouraged me to go on FOCUS recruitment weekends a few times. I always appreciated it but said, “no thanks,” because it wasn’t, “my plan.” Finally, in March of 2026 I went on a recruitment weekend which ultimately changed my life. While after the weekend I still thought FOCUS wasn’t for me (out of my own pride,) I was left with the fact that, “God put us in the world to know, to love, and to serve him,” (CCC 1721.) I knew God, I loved God, but what was I going to do with my life to serve him? In the time it took me to get an offer from FOCUS, God completely changed my heart. I went from not wanting to be a missionary, to truly feeling like I was being called by the Lord to. I gave God a, “yes,” in my heart that if I got an offer, I’d follow him. Thankfully an offer came and I accepted it. I’ve never been so sure that this is his will for me. Thanks be to God.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. It’s your generosity that makes my mission possible, and it’s a beautiful gift to be able to bring you along with me. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you. I’d be honored to share this mission with you.

“Some give to the mission by going, some go on the mission by giving. Without both, there are no missions.”
Saint John Paul II

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
