My Story

When FOCUS missionaries showed up on my campus during my junior year for the very first time, I never thought I would be a missionary.

Growing up in Tucson, Arizona, I was incredibly blessed with two parents who raised me in the faith. My parents came from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, in order to provide a better life for my sister and I, while prioritizing our Catholic faith and education. Shortly after receiving my confirmation in 8th grade, a spark began to ignite in me regarding the person of Jesus. I loved to talk about Him and bring up the topic of faith. In high school, I continued with that spark by participating in youth group, attending Kairos, and becoming a leader.

I desired deeper faith community in college, which was when the Lord led me to the Newman Center. There, I built beautiful and lifelong friendships, and eventually led my own Bible Study.

It wasn’t until my junior year when FOCUS missionaries came for the very first time to our campus that I was encouraged to have a personal relationship with Him. The pursuit continued, and for the first time in my life, I encountered the deep love Jesus had for me at SEEK. Quickly after this happened to me, I set off to study abroad in Rome. There, I was connected with other girls involved in FOCUS across the U.S. As we continued to live out our faith while studying abroad, the Lord deepened my conviction for His Great Commision where He spoke into my heart John 6:27, “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval”. That is when I knew the Lord wanted me to work for His souls that were waiting to encounter Him.
