We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
“Let us remember that love lives through sacrifice and is nourished by giving…Without sacrifice, there is no love.”
St. Maximilian Kolbe
I serve at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska
While growing up I was always involved in the church, with the youth group, or as an altar server. But I never felt that I had a true relationship with Christ. I was always told how by many people around me what my relationship with Christ should be like making the relationship forced and fake. This caused me to have a foot outside the Catholic faith always looking for something better. I always sought attention from many people in school, sports, and the church. When I wasn’t receiving the attention that I wanted from the community at my church, I separated myself from the community. This led me to a path full of sin and anger that caused a lot of tension in my life.
It wasn’t until I transferred to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, that I figured out that the better thing I was looking for was always at the church. After meeting a great Catholic community, that led me back to Christ, I still thought I wasn’t worthy of God’s mercy and that it was too late for me to have a meaningful relationship with Christ. But with the help of the missionaries at my campus and many friends, I realized that God has always wanted a relationship with me, all I had to do was accept him. ” Behold I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come to him and eat with him, and he with me” (Rev. 3:20) After a lot of prayers and guidance, God has called me to give back and help those students who feel lost and are seeking a relationship with christ Christ, by becoming a FOCUS missionary.
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
