We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
After spending two years on campus as a missionary and a brief time off staff, God called me back to FOCUS to work at the Denver Support Center. I spent three years working on the Donor Relations Team and have been on the Gift Operations team for over two years now. Whether it’s answering phones or processing donations, it is a great joy to be able to serve our donors and missionaries in a meaningful way.
I first encountered FOCUS my freshman year of college at UNO. At the time I was focused on my career in business, but I had a small desire to rekindle the faith that I had taken for granted throughout high school. Jesus took that small desire and blessed it, soon I found myself in a FOCUS Bible study with a desire to reach more souls like myself that just needed a spark to be ignited. Over the summer after my junior year of college, I felt a call to be a missionary that I could no longer ignore.
I said “yes” and the Lord blessed the two years I spent as a campus missionary at George Mason University. The students and staff that I encountered were amazing and my team became a second family to me. After those two years, as hard as it was to leave, I felt Jesus call me once again to leave everything behind and follow Him.
I left George Mason and FOCUS, moving across the country to Denver to pursue a Master’s Degree in Theology at the Augustine Institute. I felt blessed to be able to spend time studying the Catholic faith and growing in my own knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for everything that we believe. I finished up my studies and graduated in May 2020.
It is said that if you want to hear God laugh, tell Him your plans. That is exactly what happened. He ended up giving me an opportunity to come back to FOCUS serving at the DSC in a way I never would have imagined. After much prayer and discernment, I accepted the position and came back in July 2019. Being back with FOCUS has been a great blessing and support as I learn to navigate what being on Life Long Mission really means. I got married back in September of 2023 and I am really blessed to work for an organization that doesn’t just serve my material needs but also helps to nourish and support my spiritual life and vocation as a wife.
The one thing the Lord has been teaching me through all of it is that the call of discipleship is not a one and done thing. But rather, it is a continual call to which we have to say yes. We can’t expect to just leave everything behind once and never have to worry about it again. Our lives must be a constant surrender if we want to call ourselves disciples. It’s been a crazy and exciting journey so far and while I don’t know what the Lord has instore for me next, I look forward with great hope at what is to come.
Through your support, you are helping to further the mission of FOCUS by enabling me to support our staff and donors. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you.
