“Do not be afraid! Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.” ~ St. John Paul the Great
I am so excited to begin my fifth year with FOCUS working on the Missions team at the Denver Support Center!
I loved my time serving at Oklahoma State University and the University of Georgia the past three years.
My journey to Christ can really be summed up by St. Augustine’s famous line: “Our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” After rejecting my faith as nothing but an antiquated tradition, I went into college looking for fulfillment in all the wrong places. Around my sophomore year, I finally realized that no amount of going out, traveling, or relationships could ever really fill the void in my heart.
And that’s where the Lord found me. I was first introduced to FOCUS through my friend Sarah. She was the very first girl I met in college who was both “normal” and on fire for her faith, and she was very involved in FOCUS on her campus. Through her witness and willingness to share herself with me, the Lord softened my heart to where I finally reconsidered my hostility and became open to the possibility of faith.
When I ventured back to school in the fall of my junior year, I met a missionary who invited me to join her small group, and the rest is history. I fell in love with the truth and beauty of the Catholic tradition, and realized that growing in relationship with the Lord and those who love Him brought the lasting fulfillment I had been searching for my entire college experience.
As I grew in relationship with Jesus, I grew in my desire to share Him with others. I always wanted to spend my career in service to others, but I never knew exactly how I would make my impact. Yet while I was trying to figure out whether to go serve in a foreign country after graduation, I realized that my heart most deeply ached for those who had the same hurt like I did. I ached for those who had everything they could ever want, but deep down knew it would never be enough. Saint Mother Teresa’s wise words continued to echo in the back of my mind:
“Stay where you are. Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suffering, and the lonely right there where you are in your own homes and in your own families, in your workplaces and in your schools. You can find Calcutta all over the world, if you have the eyes to see.”
And so I said yes to serving as a missionary in my own country and my own community — the college campus. As a FOCUS missionary, my greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. My life has been transformed by Jesus and I want nothing more than to bring this joy to others on campus and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few. I look to Jesus own example to find the best method of reaching the world. I’ve been constantly amazed by the different souls I’ve encountered on campus, and look forward to meeting so many more!
“Some give by going to the missions, others go by giving. Without both, there are no missions.”
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. Through generous people like you, I am able to dedicate myself full-time to the work of bringing students to Christ. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know! You can contact me at 262-825-2666 or [email protected] and I will reach out to schedule an appointment. I’d be incredibly honored to share this mission with you!
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
