This year I will be serving at California State University – Long Beach; Go Beach, Go Dirtbags!

I grew up in a Catholic family in rural Michigan. I was lucky to have a very faithful, loving and supporting community who fostered a fledgling zeal for sharing the Gospel with others. After graduating high school, I decided it was time to leave the “Shire” and trek west, moving out to Salt Lake City, Utah. While I had only intended to stay in Utah for a few months, I found myself diving into a wonderful Catholic community and ended up staying to attend the University of Utah (Sko Utes!).

FOCUS missionaries played an essential role in my early college faith formation by immediately inviting me to Mass, Bible studies, and retreats. Their example of Christ-centered friendship left a lasting impact on me. I am so grateful that the missionaries didn’t hesitate to welcome me into their community.

In my junior year, FOCUS left Utah. While FOCUS has since returned to the state, during the two years they were absent, my fellow students at the Newman Center and I took over and ran our own Bible studies, retreats, and campus outreach. While it certainly was a challenge, our prior experience with FOCUS missionaries set us up for success and helped us spread the Good News to our fellow students.

After graduating college, I began working in the public sector while continuing to do ministry part-time. However, after much prayer and through God’s providence, I have decided to dedicate myself to college ministry full-time with FOCUS.
