We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
” To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek Him the greatest adventure; to find Him, the greatest human achievement ”
Saint Augustine
God has led me to serve as a FOCUS Catholic Greek Missionary at the University of Arkansas! This year, as I finish my undergraduate degree I will be serving the greek students at Arkansas through bible studies and discipleship, inviting students into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
Growing up in a Catholic family, raised by wonderful parents, I learned two things from an early age: God is important and because of this there are things we can’t do. During high school, I quickly became envious of my peers who were staying out late and going to parties. Around my senior year I was slowly able to do some of these things and have the freedom that some of my friends did.
With college just around the corner, I was excited for the seemingly unlimited freedom that I would soon possess to live the life I had always wanted. Shortly after I moved in at the University of Arkansas I decided to rush and join a fraternity, stoked to take advantage of all the things the fraternity lifestyle had to offer. During this period, my faith quickly started to fade away as I was pursuing what I thought to be better things. This went on for most of freshman year and even though I wouldn’t admit it, my life was terrible. It was at this same time that a FOCUS missionary encountered me and showed me this simple truth about freedom that I had missed:
Freedom is not the ability to do whatever one pleases, but the capacity to choose the good.
I had lost that. I had little to no real friends that cared about me, my relationship with my family was awful, I had no real direction in my life, and most importantly of all, I had lost touch with God. I was the most unhappy I had ever been. This lifestyle that had promised me abundance of life, had left me with nothing. This missionary introduced me to Jesus in a radical way and convinced me that a life without Him is worth nothing. Through this mans incredible witness to the faith, I was able to find the happiness and joy that I had always been looking for in the arms of our Lord, and I am forever grateful.
Upon accepting an offer with FOCUS, I committed to fully relying on mission partner’s financial and spiritual support to send me on this mission. Modeling the life of Christ in this unique way, I hope and pray that we can undertake this journey together.
” Some give to the mission by going, some go on the mission by giving. Without both, there are no missions ”
Saint John Paul II

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
