Hi Everyone! My name is Ally McCarthy, and I am a FOCUS missionary at the University of Southern California!

Where I serve

God has called me to serve the students at the University of Southern California! Fight on! I am beyond excited to get to know these students and to show them the Father’s love.

I have a unique opportunity to work with the student athletes at USC. I hope to share with them how to place their identity in being a child of God as opposed to in their sport.

My Story

The Lord has been incredibly gracious in the ways He has continually pursued my heart. I am super blessed to have been raised within the Catholic faith by my parents and to have grown up within such a faithful community of Catholics who loved each other and the Lord. Through tough times, the witness of my hometown community demonstrated that there is no better way to live than by choosing love.

I encountered the Lord in the Eucharist during a retreat in high school, and that is when I realized what it meant to know the Father and be loved by Him.

When I arrived at the University of Connecticut, however, I found that I was seeking joy and placing my worth in athletics, academics, and my social life. It was there that the FOCUS missionaries met me and completely transformed my college experience. They called me higher to live a life of virtue. Through their constant pursuit of me, I was able to navigate all of the challenges that come with moving away from home for the first time while being supported by people who loved me and wanted me to love the Lord.

I began to invite my teammates to Mass with me, and by my junior year, I was leading a Bible study so that I too could show these collegiate women that there is a better way to live.

I am thrilled to be able to continue this mission working for FOCUS. College can be the most crucial time period for an individual and their faith journey. Thousands of young people are falling away from their faith and experiencing deep suffering. I am working as a FOCUS missionary to bring lost sheep into relationship with their loving heavenly Father.

As a missionary, I fully depend on the Lord’s goodness and the support of the mission partners He places before me. This dependence allows for all involved to have a stake in the Mission of making disciples of all nations!
