We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hello everyone! My name is Avery Hirsch and I am a first-year missionary at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln.
“It is love alone that gives worth to all things”
– St. Teresa of Avila
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity God has given me to serve at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln! I am excited to work alongside my wonderful team and investing in the lives of students on campus. I look forward to building authentic friendships and share the truth, joy, and love of Christ with students as we walk together in faith and community.
I was born in Lake Charles, LA and raised in Aspen, Colorado where I graduated from Aspen High School in 2020. I then went to the University of Colorado- Boulder where I earned my degree in Strategic Communication and Sports Media. During my time at CU Boulder, I was involved in Greek life as a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and then later got involved with the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center on campus where I found my faith and relationship with God.
In 2023, I converted to Catholicism and have continued to grow in my faith over these last few years and receive deeper conversions. I am so blessed to have had so much support through my conversion and so many people to answer questions including my FOCUS missionaries. My life is forever changed because of this encounter with Jesus Christ through the authentic friendship of the FOCUS missionaries at my campus and the students at Buffalo Catholic.
Many college students are struggling to find a life filled with hope, purpose, and a sense of belonging. As a Greek missionary, my focus will be to conduct outreach to the Greek community here at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. As a member of the Greek community, I know that there is an “expectation” to partake in certain activities like going to frat parties, excessive drinking, etc. to be able to “fit in”. I was a greek girl that wanted another option to have fun but didn’t know where to find it until my sorority big sister, Mary Beth Tapp (FOCUS Team Director at Arizona State University), invited me into the loving and authentic community at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center in Boulder, CO.
From there, I had the option of participating in other activities that involved true community, authenticity and love. I had found my other option and was still able to participate in my sororities fun events and recruitment without having to compromise my values and ultimately my soul. I want to provide another option through invitation and invite young women into community along with good holy fun and authentic friendship on the University of Nebraska- Lincoln campus.
I literally wouldn’t be able to be on mission alone, it truly takes a village. Without the prayers and financial support of my mission partners, I wouldn’t get very far. In saying ‘yes’ to God’s call to be a FOCUS missionary, I get the opportunity to invite others on mission with me and fully rely on the Lord to provide for me through them. With your support, I am able to completely dedicate myself to the students on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know the best way to contact you. I’d be blessed and honored to share this mission with you.

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
