We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
“Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will, and being just what God wants us to be.”
– St. Thérèse of Lisieux
The Lord has called me to serve at The University of Idaho! V’s UP ✌️ As a FOCUS Greek Missionary, I get to walk with girls in Greek life and show them how to live in virtuous sisterhood!
Growing up Catholic, I knew that God was an important person in my life, but had no idea of His radical love for me, the importance of prayer, or the goodness He could provide in my life. During my freshman year at San Diego State University (Go Aztecs!), I dove straight into the culture of Greek life, still believing in God, but was placing my identity in my letters, instead of Him. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of college, when one of my sorority sisters invited me to mass at our Newman Center after a long day of Pref (iykyk). It was there that I said my first “yes” to coming back to the Lord. There, I rediscovered my Catholic faith, realizing the importance of attending Mass and receiving the sacraments.
The Lord was not done yet! After a year of being involved in my Newman Center (going to bible study, attending mass, helping plan events), the FOCUS missionaries on my campus invited me to the “Cal Pal Bowl 2023” in Berkeley, California, a gathering of all California FOCUS Campuses. After a long day of football and fun, the missionaries told us we were going to pray a “holy hour.” I have never heard this term before, but it was explained to me as an hour of prayer before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, where you converse with Him and dive deeper into His Word. Because I had never done this before, I didn’t have any spiritual reading or a prayer journal, so I just sat in the chapel looking at the Tabernacle. It was in this hour that I first heard the Lord’s voice, calling me out of the double life I was living and into a greater relationship with Him!
After a year of growing in prayer, changing my habits, and realizing we were made for more, I felt a tug in my heart for mission. My love for showing women they can be Greek AND Catholic set my heart on fire, led me to apply to FOCUS. Walking with girls this past year has been amazing, and I cannot wait to see what The Good Father has in store for me!
By saying “yes” once more to the Lord and going on mission for Him, I am also placing my trust in Him and relying on the financial and spiritual support of partners to help me. By joining me on mission, you are not just helping my team and me transform the hearts of our students; you are also opening yours for transformation! As my missionary once told me, “The Lord meets us in the most unlikely of places, He pursues our hearts relentlessly.” Let Him meet yours here!!!
