Where I serve

IMG 8891My fiancé, Levi, and I will be married this July and heading to campus as a married couple! We have been placed in Ohio at the University of Toledo, and we are so excited to serve the students there. We trust God has great things in store. Let’s go Rockets!

My Story

I grew up Catholic, attending Mass, learning in my religion classes, and generally trying to be “good.” But I thought being Catholic meant living a boring and stifled life, one where you didn’t get to do the things you wanted to because of the “rules.” And when it boiled down to it, I just simply thought it was all just a nice story we believe to make ourselves feel better. So, when I imagined my college life, I imagined the extent of my faith life to be only going to Mass on Sunday’s whenever I felt guilty.

Through virtuous, joy-filled friendship, Confession, and the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, I have learned the truth; God is real, what He says matters, and He is the Way in which I will live a life of abundance. Praise be to God for His transformative power!

Learning this was only the beginning, and my time at the University of Iowa was spent learning how to live out my newfound conviction for God. On a FOCUS mission trip to Cincinnati my freshman year, I learned the power of prayer, communal life, simplicity, and service. I experienced more joy than I ever had and wanted to commit myself to living this way always. Coming back onto campus, I experienced Christ’s peace through Adoration and daily Mass. Feeling called to serve on our campus ministry’s Outreach team, I invited other students to relationship with Christ and got to work towards expanding the Kingdom. Leading and being led in both Bible Studies and Discipleships (small group mentorship learning how to follow Christ) have continued to fuel the flame of my transformation, and I have been so blessed by the women I walk with!

My path has been far from linear, and struggles with sin affected me deeply in my college years. Through sharing my struggles with my Discipleship leader, and receiving accountability and God’s grace, I began to experience the freedom God has made me for.

I felt called to serve as a FOCUS missionary because college students are experiencing the reality of their freedom for the first time, and so many fall into sin, darkness, and isolation because of it. But our God is a God of Light! And He has given us our freedom for our own good. I want to keep proclaiming that good news and help teach others how to do the same!
