My Story

I was raised in the Catholic faith my whole life, but I did not know what pursuing my own personal relationship with God looked like.

When I transitioned into college, I quickly fell out of practicing the faith and receiving my sacraments. I had been living the fun college experience, yet I felt a burning sense of emptiness and longing to be seen, known, and loved.

My junior year, I met one of the missionaries at my college after attending a Newman Mass. Shortly after, I went on a spring retreat with the ECU Newman Center, centered on Divine Intimacy and Suffering. It was during Eucharistic Adoration at that retreat where I encountered a deep peace from the Lord. In that moment of stillness, I found myself praying the words of the Surrender Novena: “Oh Jesus, I surrender myself to You. Take care of everything.” That was the beginning of a transformation in my heart.

During my last year of college, I became close friends with the missionary at my college who saw me as a gift and told me that Jesus desires a relationship with you and He has always been pursuing you even when you did not know He was there. It was through her authentic friendship and receiving that truth where I encountered the love of Christ. I realized that my desire to be seen, known, and loved would only be fulfilled by Jesus Himself.

I invited Jesus into the parts of my heart that were still in need of healing and I saw Him open up many opportunities of surrender and growth. My last semester on campus, I had the joy of leading my own bible study, attended SEEK, participated in more retreats, and went on a FOCUS mission trip to Belize. Each opportunity led me wanting to grow closer to Him.

Through continuous prayer and giving Him my small “yes’s”, Jesus has faithfully walked with me, restoring my heart and drawing me closer to His. I’ve been continually amazed by the way His grace is prominent in both quiet moments and big leaps of faith. As a FOCUS missionary, I am filled with joy to accompany other woman on their journeys of faith and help them come to know their identity and worth as beloved daughters of Christ.
