Where I serve

I’m blessed to have the opportunity to serve at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Go Hawkeyes! This is my team, (Left to Right) Grace, Natalie, Caitlin, Kobe, Chase, Me, Matt, and Evan.

My Story

Growing up Catholic, I attended Catholic schools all the way to college, received all of the Sacraments, and was a Sunday Mass goer with my family. The faith seemed more like a set of rules and good morals that I had to abide by, a list of things to do. My involvement in many different faith oriented groups and activities in high school led me to believe that I had to do all of these things to “earn my keep” as a Catholic.

My slow reversion started when I went to Michigan Technological University for undergraduate studies, and was met by another student who joyfully invited me into his Bible study. It was clear he had something I didn’t, and I wanted to find it. As I got to know him, he showed me authentic friendship that stemmed from his relationship with God, which he invited me into.

Alongside the rest of the amazing, life-giving community at Michigan Tech and a lot of grace from God, my friend showed me that being Catholic wasn’t about checking off the boxes, but receiving the love of the Father who longs for me, and going forth in sharing that love to all I encounter. My yes to bible study turned into leading one, then inviting others to lead their own after investing in them, and eventually a yes to partaking in the beautiful mission of FOCUS!
