This fall I will begin my first year of mission serving students in the Boston area!

Born in the smallest state, Rhode Island, I was raised in a Catholic family. Like most New England Catholics, my faith life was important, and my parents cared deeply about how I would receive it. They ran the youth group at my home parish, would organize events for our community, take my siblings and I to mass, send us to CCD and encourage our faith however they could. Even still, with all their efforts, I didn’t come to know the person of Jesus Christ till much later.

Around my sophomore year of High-school, a series of family tragedies led me to ask the deeper questions. Why am I here? What am I made for? Is God actually real? Does anything really matter? Pretty quickly I was met with the realization that either A) God exists, and thats the single most important fact of the universe, or B) God doesn’t exist and nothing matters at all.

This question drove the earliest parts of my conversion, but it wasn’t until I began to build prayer life, read the scriptures, study history and engage with the living God that the truth became obvious. Jesus Christ, lived, died and then rose from the dead. Over many months the realization hit – this man from 2000 years ago, who claimed to be God, is alive – and It gets better… he loves ME.

While studying at the University of Rhode Island, my faith had really begun to take shape. I was personally getting to know Jesus for the first time in my life. However, I had developed a distaste for the Catholic church and didn’t understand why I should follow what I thought to be a man made institution. One day on campus, after weeks of praying for God to lead me to the truth, the Focus missionaries approached me. They invited me into friendship with good Catholics who loved their faith and knew the beauty of Christ’s church, and then, within a week of knowing them, they invited me to come to SEEK(the largest national catholic conference in the US) for free. These people who I just met were going to fully pay for me to go to this conference because they believed Jesus wanted to draw me in closer.

From then on, I continued to fall in love with the church. I discovered that I belonged to a history, a culture, a family – the body of Christ. The relationships I formed with the missionaries, both at URI and then later in Nashville TN, where some of the most powerful relationships in my life. For some reason, these people believed in me when I didn’t. They loved me when I thought I shouldn’t be loved. They displayed christ in a way I’d never seen before. I wanted to be for others what they were for me. Thats why I am here now. I know there are many out there who, just like me, just need someone to show up for them. If by doing that I can introduce even a single soul to Christ, it would have been worth it.

This mission to bring students to christ relies fully on the help and support of generous people. I fully believe donations are not just about aiding me financially, but rather that by donating you are participating in this mission with me. You will be enabling me to fully give myself to the men on these campuses. Inviting them to bible studies, leading them in discipleship and ultimately inviting them to invite others to relationship with Christ.
