“Being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves because you had become very dear to us.”
1 Thessalonians 2:8
Hello, all! My name is Gwendolyn and I am excited to be serving at South Dakota State University! Let’s go Jacks!
Growing up in a faithfully Catholic family, I have always loved my faith, however I struggled knowing how to put my faith into practice. Thanks to the guidance and friendship of my college FOCUS missionary, I learned how to live out the fundamentals of our faith each and every day. I was blessed to then serve myself as a Bible study and discipleship leader, walking with college women in their journeys of faith.
I gave my “yes” to FOCUS because of my former missionary’s invitation to apply in my last semester of college. Once I attended an interview weekend, I couldn’t say no to this invitation to serve Christ and His Church. Ever since, the Lord has truly blessed this commitment!
God sent His only son so that all could believe in Him and enter into the glories of eternal life (John 3:16). Not all are blessed to know this vital truth about our human identity. Jesus himself told his disciples to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) and bring them to the faith. This is our most important mission in life – to bring people to know Jesus Christ and invite them into lives filled with goodness, joy, and truth.
The goal of FOCUS is to invite college students to know Jesus Christ through a life devoted to prayer, fellowship, sacraments, and the teachings of the church (Acts 2:42). Your generous commitment allows us to invite students into lifelong discipleship – therefore fulfilling Christ’s mission!

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
