We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
“I plead with you- never, ever give up on hope, never doubt, never tire, and never become discouraged. Be not afraid.”
– St. Pope John Paul II
God has called me to share my witness to Christ with the students at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
Throughout my youth and high school years, I faced various personal trials. Though I was raised Catholic, I resisted my family’s faith and God all together because of the hardships in my life. During the fall of my freshman year of college, overwhelmed by the burdens I was carrying, I turned to Jesus in humility for the first time—uncertain of His existence—asking Him what He wanted from me. In that moment I surrendered my life to Him, because that is what He asked me for.
Around that time, God placed faithful Catholics in my life who are now my closest friends. Together, we grew in our understanding of Jesus through Scripture, prayer, and Mass. God began to transform my earlier trials—sports injuries, chronic medical issues, and family trauma—into a deep love for Jesus and His redemptive suffering. I came to see my sufferings as gifts, forming in me Christ-centered love and compassion for those I once overlooked. I realized my family’s faith was never just about going to Mass, but foremost about having a personal relationship with Jesus. I came to understand faith not as a coping mechanism for difficult times in my own life- but as the daily decision to configure my own life to Christ’s- who is truly the the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
After sophomore year, I quit football—long a part of my identity and self-worth. In my senior year, I felt a strong call to walk onto my college’s lacrosse team—a brotherhood I desired to be part of. Though I hadn’t played since youth and knew I wasn’t good at the sport, I trusted that God would use me in my weakness to reveal His strength and humility to others. I longed to be a witness to Christ for my teammates and relied entirely on God—attending daily Mass for the first time and praying more deeply than ever before.
This brought me into a deeper relationship with Jesus. I’ve received immense graces: peace, joy, clarity, a deep conviction in the Gospel, and a stronger awareness of the Holy Spirit in my life. Halfway through this year, during this spiritual deepening, God opened a door through unique circumstances for me to become a FOCUS missionary. Over the past year, He has transformed my life so I may now help lead others to Christ and share the graces I’ve received.
2 Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in your weakness.”

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
