We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
Hi my name is Ivanna and I’m a FOCUS missionary. Thank you for visiting on my page!
“Remember that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love.”
-St. Thérèse of Lisieux

I am a first year-missionary and I will be serving at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I was blessed to lead Bible Study and walk with girls at the University of Louisville, and now I’m excited to continue growing in my faith and walk with other students at UTSA!! Go Roadrunners!

Something that I have realized since looking back at my faith journey is that Jesus has never stopped pursuing me. Every retreat, Sacrament, Mass, He would always invite me to be in a deeper relationship with Him and I was too stubborn to fully say yes to Him. I’ll try my best to explain how He has been changing my life little by little and if you want to hear more, I’ll be happy to talk more about it :).
I was born and raised Catholic, I don’t think there has been a day in my life where I didn’t believed but as many Hispanics it was mostly a cultural thing, so I didn’t have a relationship or understood what it meant to be a relationship with Him.
I would go on retreats and Mission trips and I would feel Him all the time but after a couple weeks that high would disappear and I would go back to not truly understanding what it meant to be His daughter. It wasn’t until I moved to the US where my relationship with Him started to change in a more drastic way.
My first year in the US was also my first year at college so after months of being confused and sad, on my first or second week I remembered someone once telling me that going to Mass is all you need when you feel that way so that’s what I did. After months of feeling that God did not hear my prayers I went to Daily Mass on my campus and after Mass everyone turned to one of the walls where I did not know they had an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe to sing the Salve Regina. In that moment I started crying and I felt so loved and comforted. After Mass one of the FOCUS missionaries invited me to Bible Study.
After that there were some other ups and downs but during my junior year I started to be more consistent with Bible Study and started discipleship and that just helped me have a better understanding on my faith and how loved I was. As my junior and senior year developed I found a community that was striving for the same things as me and make friendships that not only want the best for me in the material sense but that will help me stay close to God and grow in my faith.

If you want to understand a little bit more of how it felt to chose to be in a relationship with Him, I would recommend listening to Packing it up by Gracie Abrams or Through the Dark by One Direction.
When I said yes to the plans that God has for me and joined FOCUS, I also said yes to trust and rely on Him completely through fundraising my salary with the support of mission partners to help me fulfill this mission. This mission isn’t just mine, It’s ours. I can only be on campus sharing Christ because of generous mission partners who walk with me through prayer and monthly financial support.
“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God” (2 Corinthians 9:11)
If you are interested in joining me in this mission or want to hear more about how God might be calling us to share this mission please let me know what would be the best way to reach you and I’ll be happy to meet with you. It would be an honor to share this mission with you!

We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.

By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.

We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
