My Story

My parents raised me in the Catholic faith, teaching me to prioritize Sunday Mass and instilling Catholic values in me. It is a beautiful gift to have this foundation of faith! It wasn’t until my time in college, though, that I was faced with a decision to choose the faith for myself. The meeting of intellectual knowledge of God and an invitation to a deeper, more personal relationship with Him changed everything for me.

I was committed to receiving the Sacraments, but my “why” was not strong. As a freshman, it’s really pushed for you to get involved with all that college has to offer. I looked up some of the clubs and other extracurriculars that were available and decided to sign up for a few. Thanks be to God, one of the first clubs I signed up for was the NCSA (Newman Catholic Student Association). Shortly after that, a missionary reached out to me and invited me to an event… and then to a Zoom Bible Study. It was through these simple invitations and a deep joy and peace I noticed in her that I was led to an encounter with Christ. Suddenly, I found myself desiring to learn more about my Catholic faith and forming friendships centered around the Lord. My relationship with God had never felt more alive.

“Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure” – Pope St. John Paul II

During the summer, between my Sophomore and Junior year, I participated in FOCUS Summer Projects in Newry, Maine. This experience was another pivotal moment in my faith journey. I was surrounded by 40 other Catholic college students, worked a full-time job in food service, and had some of the best Catholic formation each week. We were taught by the missionaries how to lead Bible studies and discipleship formation groups. It was there that I learned how to live out the Christian life while managing a demanding work schedule. That summer, my heart was set on fire for mission and has only continued growing.

Through the friendship and witness of a FOCUS missionary, I was led into a deeper relationship with God and shown the beauty of missionary life. It is my desire to invite other young college students to make Jesus the center of their lives and experience the joy of the Gospel!

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus.
