Where I serve

I am blessed with the opportunity to serve students at the University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks!). This is my first year at USC, where I serve as a Greek missionary, walking primarily with women in sororities on campus.

My Story

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” – St. Augustine

When I began college at the University of Texas at Austin the last thing I expected to find was a relationship with Christ. Throughout my first two years at UT, I placed my identity in my grades, in my sorority and Greek life, and in always looking for the “next best thing.” By Christmas break of my sophomore year, I was left feeling lost and searching for a deeper purpose in life.

It was at this point when an older girl in my sorority invited me to SEEK, a Catholic conference for college students. I had been raised Catholic but practicing my faith in college was not a priority at all, as I didn’t see the point in pursuing something that wasn’t “productive.”

By nothing else but the grace of God I agreed to attend SEEK and my life was forever changed. It was in Adoration, surrounded by 20,000 college students, that I experienced Christ’s love for me personally for the first time. I knew that all the things that I had been placing my identity and searching for meaning in were never going to satisfy me – that I was loved and created for more than the life that I was living.

After this encounter, I knew that I had to make having a relationship with Christ a priority. Through FOCUS discipleship and my friendship with missionaries and student leaders, I grew in love of Christ as I was taught how to pray, and learned more about Sacraments and the Church.

As I began to grow in my faith, I became more and more sure of my purpose and identity as a daughter of God and was filled with a growing desire to share this with others. Through leading a Bible study in my sorority house, and leading women in Discipleship, I was privileged to witness the way God was changing the hearts and lives of the women he had entrusted into my care.

Here is a photo of some of these women from one of the last Bible studies I led at UT!

Bible study

Getting involved with FOCUS during my time at UT changed my life as the missionaries and student leaders inspired and led me into a deeper relationship with Christ.

I felt called to become a FOCUS missionary because I believe that every college student deserves the chance to know Christ’s love for them and his plan for their life!
