For my third year on mission, I have been called to serve as the Team Director at Stony Brook University on Long Island to reach the students with the love of Christ! For the first two years on mission, I had the great joy and privilege to serve on the Campus Worcester Team in Worcester, Massachusetts. While in Worcester, I served students across the campuses of Assumption University, Clark University, College of the Holy Cross, Fitchburg State University, Quinsigamond Community College, Nichols College, Worcester State University, as well as young adults within the Diocese.

       I was raised Catholic in a rural area of South-Central Texas. In chase of my childhood dream of working with textiles in museums, I attended the University of Delaware to study Art Conservation. Much of my time in college was spent studying in the library focusing on getting perfect grades and participating in extra-curriculars to try and fill my longing desire for community. Living the faith was hardly modeled on campus and although I was strong in my faith, I found myself desiring something more. My junior year two FOCUS Missionaries arrived on campus. Suddenly, there were people working hard to build a Catholic community, modeling what it looks like to be a disciple of Christ, and inspiring me to deepen my faith life.

       The missionaries on my campus greatly impacted me and encouraged me to deepen my prayer life, frequent the sacraments, engage in fellowship, and embrace scripture and Church teaching. My experience as a college student was completely transformed by the missionaries’ presence. Through my involvement with the Catholic Campus Ministry and FOCUS at UD, I began to see the power of being a witness of the Catholic faith—the power of living a life in imitation of Christ even when it feels like it’s against the majority of the culture. As I have served as a FOCUS Missionary, I have seen how the Lord has continued to transform me. My prayer is that I may serve as a witness to other young adults in order to help them build authentic community, foster deep prayer lives, and to live a life in imitation and love of Christ.

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission.
