If I could summarize my faith story with just one word, it would be hope.

I was blessed to have wonderful parents who raised me and my five siblings in the Catholic faith. The love of my family and the grace of the sacraments gave me a strong foundation. However, growing up in the city, attending public school, and having little access to Catholic friends or community, my faith often felt lonely.

When I was a junior in high school, my older sister gave me Rediscovering Catholicism by Matthew Kelly. I’ll never forget reading the line where he says that young people today are starving for authentic witnesses. Those words resonated deeply with me and became a prayer in my heart. I longed for friends and a community that would make living the faith feel less isolating.

The Lord answered that prayer just a few months later when I attended a FOCUS conference. As soon as I arrived, I found myself surrounded by 4,000 young adults on fire for their faith. The conference was more than fun and formative, it gave me something I desperately needed: hope. For the first time, I realized I wasn’t alone in striving to live my faith.

That hope carried me into college at St. Vincent College, where I experienced authentic Catholic community for the first time. After graduation, I served with The Culture Project for several years. During that time, the Lord impressed upon me again and again that young people are hungry for authentic witnesses and for the hope of knowing that they, too, are not alone and are capable of living lives of purpose, freedom, and authentic love.

Now, sixteen years later, the Lord has called me to serve with FOCUS. It’s a privilege to help make it possible for thousands of young people, many who, like I once was, are simply searching for hope. The same hope that changed my life is the hope I now have the opportunity to share with others.
