My name is Kevin Josue Salvatierra-Gohering. Growing up I did not like my name, particularly “Josue”. It was only recently in the past few years while talking to my Dad that I learned that I was named this for a reason. I was named after the verse Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

The majority of college, my heart was far from the Lord. I said I was a Christian, but my actions said otherwise. One day, I felt a pull on my heart to come to the Church for a free dinner followed by a speaker giving a talk. And in this talk, the speaker, opens up with the verse Joshua 1:9.

I knew this was no coincidence. It was the first time in 3 years that I had decided to come to the Catholic center, and I get called by name in a way that I can’t ignore. Because of this moment and the impact that SEEK24 had on me, I gave my life to Christ. And I even been growing in a deeper relationship with Him ever since.

All of this has led me to the crossroads of choosing FOCUS or not. At first, I did not want to be a missionary. I wanted a comfortable life that the world and my engineering degree offered me. But God had other plans. He did not desire me to live the life of comfort, but one of mission: to bring others to know and love Christ. I fought the choice for a while, but ultimately God prevails.

Now, my heart is more on fire for Christ than ever, and I’m so excited to accept this divine mission to which I’ve been entrusted. What an honor it is to work for the Kingdom of God!

We are all called to fulfill the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19, telling us to “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.” Not everyone has the freedom to move across the country and evangelize, but by supporting me in my ministry, you can participate in my mission to bring Christ to the whole world.
