The Lord has blessed me with the opportunity to serve at the University of Southern California! Go Trojans and FIGHT ON!

College is the opportunity for new beginnings, new hopes, and new experiences. When arriving at the University of Alabama, I found this to be true. However, I pursued these ideas in all the wrong ways. Like many young men and women, I had not allowed God in to my life in an intimate and loving way.

Through my first two years of college, I made many new friends, many new memories, and had a whole lot of fun. Yet I longed for something more, I longed for something intimate, loving, and above all things, divine. I started to lose my passion for all the loose strings and immoral passions around me.

Luckily, I was invited to a FOCUS bible study at the end of my sophomore year. While I was only attending the study ever so often, it was starting to have a profound effect on my passion as well as forming a new curiosity in my heart. Starting my junior year, I decided to fully commit to going to bible study every week, what’s the worst that could happen!

After regularly attending for a couple months, the Lord had worked tremendously in my heart and I was committed to learning more about my faith and the true intimacy of the sacraments. Later in my spring semester of my Junior year, my missionary shared the Gospel with me and invited me to invite Jesus as the center of my life. Throughout the next months, I learned to have an intimate and faithful relationship with my brothers, with Christ, and with the faithful Catholic community at the university.

Next came a call that put all others to shame, the call to radical change and a radical lifestyle, or as some say, a call to Mission! I was faced with a decision to take time away from my major studies after graduation and pursue Christ in all aspects. Starting my final semester at Alabama I was blessed to have the opportunity to create an Athlete and Fraternity bible study. I was unbelievably fortunate to watch the Holy Spirit work in over twenty young men in less than 4 months. God is truly mighty!

The true call to mission allowed me the freedom to be confident and trusting in the Lord’s calling of my heart. I will be helping college men find Christ, and hopefully leading them to a passion and level of curiosity never felt before!

Stepping on a college campus nowadays can be an unsettling experience as you see such a lack of “importance” for a relationship with Christ. With now over 50% of high school graduates attending university, our students are being introduced to communities that will most likely shape their ideas and culture for years to come. Many students also view college as the best four years of their life, but the Lord has greater plans. When stepping onto campus, we are introduced to vices galore and are normally not prudent enough to see an absence of God in those actions. I pray and hope that regardless of public or private status, every university will start to turn away from the wickedness and snares that the devil puts in front of them. We are in the greatest love story of all time, yet we must learn to fight this battle together and with a true faith in the almighty power of our savior Jesus Christ.
